The Permanent Environmental Observatory (OPE), an entity created in 2007 within Andra, aims to monitor environmental changes across a 910 km² area located in the Meuse and Haute-Marne departments.
This area could host the deep geological industrial storage center (Cigéo), intended for the disposal of high‑ and intermediate‑level long‑lived radioactive waste around the years 2050/2055.
